Friday Folk Flashback

“Better Way” – Ben Harper

I’ve always said that one of the positives that comes out of having a government as divisive as the one Australia has right now is that it motivates the previously politically apathetic to take a stand. And one of the best ways to vent our frustration at the political process is through music. I believe in a better way.

Friday Folk Flashback

“24” – Emmy The Great

All the talk of the new Diane Cluck album this week has meant I’ve had “24” stuck in my head, mainly because of the lyric “You are still not Charles Bukowski and I am not Diane Cluck”. This is a great song and this live version is a nice take on the track.

Martin Carthy Announced as National Folk Festival Headliner

Martin Carthy

Martin Carthy, one of the most influential artists in folk music, has this morning been announced as the headliner for the 2014 National Folk Festival. Martin Carthy has a career that has spanned decades, seen the release of over 40 albums, has famously inspired the likes of Bob Dylan and Paul Simon and is considered a leading figure in the British folk revival.

The National Folk Festival revealed its full lineup late last month so Martin Carthy’s addition comes as an unexpected but very welcome surprise. During the festival Carthy will be performing three bid shows and he is exclusive to The National this year so this will be your only chance to see him.

The National Folk Festival takes place at Exhibition Park in Canberra from the 17th to 21st April. Check out the official web site for more information.
