Timber and Steel Premiere: Peasant Moon’s New Single “Back In Time”

Sydney based Americana duo Peasant Moon have established themselves as an integral part of the local scene over the last few years. Having just returned from their first Tamworth Country Music Festival Peasant Moon are ready to release their brand new single “Back In Time” and we’re super proud to give Timber and Steel readers the first listen

“Back In Time” is taken from the duo’s third EP which is due for release later this year and features a full band.

“”Back In Time” serves partly as a warning to my future self,” says singer and guitarist Harvey Russell. “As Joni Mitchell said, “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone”.”

The Waifs Announce 25th Anniversary Tour

2017 marks 25 years of Australian folk band The Waifs and to celebrate they’re releasing a new album and hitting the road the road for a national tour.

Their new album, Ironbark, is due for release on the 3rd March. The album will feature 14 tracks and between now and the 3rd of March The Waifs will be releasing 11 bonus tracks (bringing the total to 25 to match the anniversary).

The first bonus track is “Song for Jacqueline (Song That Soothes)” which you can listen to here:

The Waifs fans are legendary in the industry for their loyalty and enthusiasm. It feels like we all grew up together” explains Vikki Thorn. “We are now the band you can brings your parents and your kids to hear! Your involvement in our career means everything to us. You are the very reason we are still playing music together 25 years on.”

Last week celebrated English nu-folk artist Matthew and the Atlas released their brand new single “Elijah” as a free download. The track is the first taste from the band’s recording sessions in the USA towards the end of last year – and we can only assume there’s more on the way.

If you’ve been following the career of American indie-folk singer Radical Face then you’ll know that while he works on his epic Family Tree series of albums he’s also releasing the songs that don’t make the cut on his The Bastards free EPs.

Radical Face has just announced that we’re unlikely to see the final Family Tree album until March 2016, but he has gone ahead and released The Bastards Volume 4 which is available as a free download over at NoiseTrade. Americana husband and wife gospel-folk duo The Welcome Wagon are currently working on a new batch of songs for their latest LP in 2016, and have decided to give a sampler away for free titled A Work of Love in Progress.

Best known as collaborators with Sufjan Stevens, this is The Welcome Wagon’s first new material since their 2012 release Precious Remedies Against Satan’s Devices.

Dear Orphans singer and guitarist Nick Payne is busy working on his first solo album and he’s given Timber and Steel a taster of the very first track – “Old Sydney Town”. Billed as a “convict song”, the track has a great old-timey feel and definitely got our attention. Take a listen below:

American singer-songwriter Radical Face is busy readying the final installment in his The Family Tree trioly, due next year, and as usual he is offering up an EP of songs that didn’t make the album as a free download.
