Award winning English folk duo Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker have announced plans to tour Australia this March. The duo will also be releasing their new album Seedlings All on the 23rd March while they’re in the country.

“For the first time I’m out there alone with a bunch of songs that expose my insecurities, fears of failure and inflated pride,” Josienne Clarke explained of the the album. “They deal with my own specific thoughts and feelings about the reality of pursuing this kind of career, the cost to personal relationships, circumstance and lifestyle, and asking the question – “Is this still worth it?” They’re about trying to find an inner balance in an environment that doesn’t provide any balance or certainty. Where one day everything is brilliant and the next day it could all be over. Where one night ends in a standing ovation and the next starts by playing to an empty room.”

Check out Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker’s new single “Chicago”:

Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker have been announced for the Port Fairy Folk Festival and the Blue Mountains Music Festival as well as a headline date in Melbourne. The full list of dates are here:

Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th March – Port Fairy Folk Festival, Port Fairy, VIC
Wednesday 14th March – Thornbury Theatre, Melbourne, VIC
Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March – Blue Mountains Music Festival, Katoomba, NSW

The Decemberists Announce New Album I’ll Be Your Girl

The Decemberists

After making our favourite album of 2017, The Queen of Hearts, as part of the Offa Rex project, The Decemberists have kicked off their 2018 with a huge announcement that we can expect another record from them this year.

The album is titled I’ll Be Your Girl and is due for release on the 16th March. I’ll Be Your Girl was recorded with producer John Congleton (St. Vincent, Lana del Rey, Wye Oak, Angel Olsen, Swans) and promises to be full of songs that “tend to the darker, more absurdist side of things”.

The Decemberists are also hinting at a world tour this year that may include Australia if they can make it work. The first single from I’ll Be Your Girl is the 80s sounding “Severed” – check out the track listing for the album and a stream of “Severed” below:

1. Once In My Life
2. Cutting Stone
3. Severed
4. Starwatcher
5. Tripping Along
6. Your Ghost
7. Everything Is Awful
8. Sucker’s Prayer
9. We All Die Young
10. Rusalka, Rusalka / The Wild Rushes
11. I’ll Be Your Girl

Watch the New Paddy McHugh Video “Down To Sydney”

Brisbane based singer-songwriter Paddy McHugh has just released the video for his latest single “Down To Sydney”. Taken from his 2017 album City Bound Trains, “Down To Sydney” deals with issues around suicide, especially for young men in the country.

“Suicide rates in Australia are high, too high. Especially for young men in rural areas,” McHugh explained. “”Down to Sydney” is a story that has no doubt played out many times in every small town across the country. In the song however, the protagonist finds another way out – I guess I want people to realise that there are alternatives and there is hope even in the most unlikely places.”

Australian troubadour Musketeer has just released his latest live video “The North Sea”. Previously known as a solo artist, Musketeer has recently made a base for himself in Hamburg, Germany and started working with a full band which all play on this track.

I’m really liking the way Musketeer’s sound has evolved with the addition of the band and electric instrumentation. Check out “The North Sea” here:
