Friday Folk Flashback

“Arthur McBride” – Paul Brady

Simply classic – what more can be said?

Listen to the New Single from Angharad Drake, “Water”

Angharad Drake

Angharad Drake is a Brisbane based singer-songwriter who has been creating interesting acoustic folk music for some time now. Drake has a slew of EPs already under her belt and will be releasing her debut album later this year (likely in October).

The first single from the upcoming album is “Water” which is a dark, swirling acoustic number that features a really nice production value that reminds me a little of the sparseness of Sam Amidon.

Take a listen to “Water” below:

Watch the New Mumford & Sons Video “Ditmas”

Mumford & Sons

The latest video from Mumford & Sons’ rock focused third album Wilder Mind, the epic “Ditmas”, dropped last week. I know a lot of people are talking about how much their sound has changed but to be honest this track feels like classic Mumford & Sons, only with slightly different instrumentation.

Check out the video for “Ditmas” below:

Mumford & Sons will be touring Australia in November. The dates are here:

Saturday 7th November – Riverstage, Brisbane, QLD
Thursday 12th November – Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne, VIC
Saturday 14th November – Gentlemen Of The Road, The Domain, Sydney, NSW

Watch the New Passenger Video “When We Were Young”

Passenger

UK singer-songwriter Passenger last week released his new video “When We Were Young”, showcasing his crazy live music schedule.

“Last weekend in London was completely insane,” Passenger explained on his Youtube channel. “On the Saturday night I played my own show at the incredibly beautiful Somerset House and then the following day I opened up for Ed Sheeran at Wembley Stadium. The shows were of course very different and both totally amazing in their own way. Massive thank you again to everyone who came along!!”

Watch the video for “When We Were Young” below:

Passenger will be supporting Ed Sheeran on his Australian stadium tour later this year. Full dates here:

Saturday 28th November – Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane, QLD
Wednesday 2nd December – Nib Stadium, Perth, WA
Saturday 5th December – AAMI Park, Melbourne, VIC
Wednesday 9th December – Allianz Stadium, Sydney, NSW

Friday Folk Flashback

“Maggie’s Farm” – Bob Dylan

Tomorrow marks the 50th anniversary of the day Dylan went electric at the Newport Folk Festival. This video is footage from the actual show although I’ve heard the booing crowd at the end of the audio was spliced in from the end of Dylan’s set, not from the end of “Maggie’s Farm”. A moment of folk and rock history.
