Last week Sydney based singer-songwriter Taryn La Fauci released the gorgeous new video for her single “Life of Song”. The track perfectly showcases La Fauci’s powerful lyrics and stripped back, acoustic accompaniment.

“Life of Song” is the first track from Taryn La Fauci’s highly anticipated debut album Cycling due on the 30th June.

“I crafted every idea with a purpose and idea behind it,” La Fauci said of the album. “This record is where I am as an artist and songwriter and I am very proud of this album and more confident with it than the first EP.”

Check out the video for “Life of Song” below:

Taryn La Fauci will be appearing at the Porch Light Sessions at The Petersham Bowling Club in Sydney this Thursday 8th June – for full details check out the details on the official Facebook event here.

Interviews

“Most of the songs as well are performed live which I think was important for us. We really wanted to make it representative. What you hear, apart from a couple of overdubs, is what was played in the room” – Sime Nugent and Alice Keath from Sweet Jean chat to Gareth Hugh Evans. Interview here

“We’re very very tailored for busking. It’s just what made the most sense for our sort of act. But it’s different with everyone. Jack running around, doing all his flips, having the didgeridoo out are all good things to make people stop and buy a CD. And that’s what’s kept us going. If you don’t have those gimmicks it’s harder to make the money to keep it up”The Pierce Brothers chat to Gareth Hugh Evans. Details here

“I don’t think any of us were actively looking to make it a project. It was fun the first time we did it and then people kept asking us to play and then asking us to record a CD. Then we got a really great booking agent recently and he sort of made it a bit more serious. It’s still really fun and that’s kind of the main aim. We want to stay friends and we want to still have fun”All Our Exes Live In Texas chat to Gareth Hugh Evans. Interview here

“Yeah, I do try and make little licks up. I only learnt that because I loved Joni Mitchell and would just go on Youtube and watch her play guitar. People would comment “what tuning is this in” and someone would comment back with the tuning and I’d just tune my guitar to it and watch where her fingers went. That’s kind of where I learnt that side of guitar playing”Melody Pool chats to Gareth Hugh Evans. Interview here

“Shark Fin Blues” – Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens

This week Missy Higgins announced her new album OZ along with with releasing her version of the track “Shark Fin Blues”, orignially by The Drones (see this piece). The track is considered one of the best Australian songs ever, and I’m a little obsessed with it to be honest. I was originally introduced to “Shark Fin Blues” by Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens so I hunted out this video of them performing it live at National Folk Festival – and it turns out I was probably in the audience when this video was shot!

Friday Folk Flashback

“Better Way” – Ben Harper

I’ve always said that one of the positives that comes out of having a government as divisive as the one Australia has right now is that it motivates the previously politically apathetic to take a stand. Sydney’s newest folk and acoustic night, the Porch Light Sessions, is going from strength to strength and with their June lineup it looks like the momentum is set to continue.

On Thursday 12th June the Petersham Bowling Club in Sydney’s inner-west will play host to three of the folk scene’s most exciting artists – Sydney singer-songwriter Dave Calandra, Tasmanian folk singer Christopher Coleman (above) and the one and only Elana Stone.

The music kicks off from 7:30pm and tickets are just $10 on the door. For more information check out the official Facebook event here.
