“We’re always trying to grow our sound, trying to find new ways to help us get a bigger sound. Tim (Chaisson) plays the fiddle and has a bit of foot percussion going on with the stomp box and tambourine. Koady (Chaisson) plays the banjo but also does a bit of pedal work with some effects, some bass stuff with his feet. I’ve mostly played guitar over the past couple of years but I play keyboard as well and we’ve been slowly bringing that into the show as well. This week the Port Fairy Folk Festival has added even more artists to its ever expanding lineup.

The latest announcement is headed up by Australian big band Melbourne Ska Orchestra and Scottish sensation Breabach. They are joined by Sásta, SugaTree and Fiona Kershaw.

The Port Fairy Folk Festival is held in Port Fairy, Victoria from the 9th to the 12th March. For more information check out the official site here.

The Port Fairy Folk Festival Announces More Artists for 2018

The early bird tickets for the 2018 Port Fairy Folk Festival have just gone on sale and the festival has just announced a bunch of new artists on the lineup.

This time around Port Fairy has announced Amistat, Ben Waters Band (UK) with Derek Nash (UK), Black Sorrows, Blair Dunlop (UK), Davidson Brothers, Frank Burkitt Band (NZ), Lily & King, Peter Rowan Bluegrass Band, Rory Ellis Trio, Ted Egan, Victoriana Gaye, Brian Nankervis, 10 String Symphony (USA), The Grigoryan Brothers with Adam Page, Hillbilly Goats, Hussy Hicks, Josienne Clarke & Ben Waters (UK), King Marong & Afro Mandinko, La Busca, Lost Ragas and more.

They join the likes of Alan Kelly Gang, Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys, Harry Manx, The Ahern Brothers, The Teskey Brothers and many more.

First Artist Announcement for the Port Fairy Folk Festival 2018

With early bird tickets just about to go on sale for the 2018 Port Fairy Folk Festival, Victoria’s premiere folk even have just released a huge swathe of artists for first announcement.

Firstly the Port Fairy Folk Festival will be showcasing two very specical performances of Exile: Songs & Tales of Irish Australia featuring performances from Troy Cassar-Daley (AUS), Declan O’Rourke (IRE), Shane Howard (AUS), Pauline Scanlon (IRE), Andy Irvine (IRE), John Spillane (IRE), Leah Flanagan (AUS), Lynnelle Moran (AUS), John McSherry (IRE) and an eight piece band of traditional musicians.

Along with the artists announced as part of Exile: Songs & Tales of Irish Australia the Port Fairy Folk Festival has also added a bunch of other performers for 2018 including Alan Kelly Gang (IRE), The Band Who Knew Too Much, Chris While & Julie Matthews (UK), Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys (CAN), Harry Manx (CAN), Nano Stern (Chile), Rebecca Barnard, Steve Poltz (USA), The Topp Twins (NZ), The Ahern Brothers, The Brothers Comatose (USA), Faith I Branko (Serbia/UK), Gina Williams & Guy Ghouse, Jack Broadbent (UK), Mental As Anything, The Mexicans, Sophie Koh & Her Lady Choir, The Teskey Brothers and YolanDa Brown (UK).

Martha Tilston Announces Australian Tour Dates

English singer-songwriter and Timber and Steel favourite Martha Tilston has announced plans to tour Australia this March and April. Having already been announced on the Port Fairy, Yackandandah and National Folk Festival lineups, Tilston will also be headlining shows in Victoria and New South Wales.

While Martha Tilston is in Australia she will be promoting the release of her new album Nomad which will be released on the 10th March.

The Port Fairy Folk Festival is undoubtedly one of the biggest events on the folk music calendar and once again 2017 is shaping up to be an amazing event.
