Sydney folk fans rejoice – a brand new event is hitting your calendars this month! The first Bluegrass & Old Timey Festival is heading to Yulli’s Brews in Alexandria on Sunday 19th May.
It sounds like the Bluegrass & Old Timey Festival is taking Sydney’s Yulli’s Sessions (previously Bluegrass @ Yulli’s) monthly night format and turning it up to eleven. The festival will kick off with an all-in jam where you can bring your banjo, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, etc and join in for some fine music.
The jam kicks off at 1:30pm with the performances from 3pm. For more information check out the official Facebook event here – the full schedule for the day is below:

Sydney jam night Bluegrass @ Yulli’s is all set to hold its annual UNHCR Fundraiser at Yulli’s in Surry Hills on the 15th November this year.
Following on from last year’s super successful “Bluesgrassified” theme, where a number of Bluegrass @ Yulli’s feature artists covered popular songs in a Bluegrass style, this year we’re going to be getting bluegrass versions of classic country music. Think Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Hank Williams, Loretta Lynn and beyond.
Entry to the night is free and all of the artists are donating their time. Yulli’s will be donating towards the night and the audience will be asked for donations throughout the night to support UNHCR.
The October edition of Sydney jam night Bluegrass @ Yulli’s is set to take place next week on the 18th October.
As always the night will feature an all in bluegrass and old time jam with players and singers invited to bring down their instruments to join in the fun. The jam kicks off at 6pm and we recommend people get there early to join in the fun.
Following the jam at 8pm will be the feature artists, which this time is folk duo The New Macedon Rangers. The acclaimed duo will be bringing their own unique blend of traditional dance music, mountain ballads, early country music and more.

This month bluegrass and old time duo Golden Whistler return to Bluegrass @ Yulli’s stage, bringing their wonderful music to Sydney’s most intimate performance space.
Bluegrass @ Yulli’s will take place at Yulli’s in Sydney next Wednesday 20th September. As always the night kicks off at 6pm with an all-in jam, where you’re invited to bring your banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle or whatever you’ve got to pluck and play your way through some favourite bluegrass and old time tunes and songs, followed by Golden Whistler’s sweet sweet tunes at 8pm. And of course the whole night is free!

The month has only just begun but we already have the details of the next Bluegrass @ Yulli’s, set to take place on Wednesday 23rd August.
The monthly Sydney jam and performance night will this month feature rootsy honky tonk trio Gareth Rowan and The Crazy Fools. The trio, made up of Gareth Rowan, Gary Brown and Jamie Sampson, will be bringing their own brand of western swing, hillbilly and country music to Yulli’s and are guaranteed to delight.
As always the feature band will be proceeded by an all in jam where you’re encouraged to bring your banjo, guitar, bass, mandolin, fiddle or whatever and enjoy some pickin’ and singin’. The jam kicks off at 6pm with Gareth Rowan and The Crazy Fools taking to the stage at 8pm.
