Anyone hoping to catch a headline show from American folk rockers The Head and The Heart when they’re in the country for Sydney City Limits better be prepared to find their way to Melbourne.

The band has only announced a single sideshow, appearing at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on the 1st March. If The Head and The Heart are top of your list to go and see I’d recommend getting on top of tickets to this show ASAP as it’s bound to sell out soon.

With the summer festival announcement season well and truly upon us it’s exciting to see so many visiting artists now announcing headline shows while they’re in the country.

The latest band to drop tour dates is Rocky Mountain five-piece The Railsplitters. The band, known for their high-energy fussion bluegrass, will be touring throughout January including shows at Woodford and the Cygnet Folk Festival.

Breaking Trad Announce Australian Tour Dates

Irish trad three piece Breaking Trad – made up of Dónal Murphy (accordion), Niall Murphy (fiddle) and Mike Galvin (Guitar/Vocals) – will be teaming with renowned singer and bodhran player Gino Lupari for an Australian tour this January.

Breaking Trad will be touring off the back of an appearance at the Woodford Folk Festival with a bunch of dates up and down the East Coast, finishing up at next year’s Illawarra Folk Festival.

When Sydney based singer-songwriter Julia Johnson started revealing her new solo sound earlier this year I got pretty excited. I feel like Johnson has grown as an artist since moving away from The Deep Sea Sirens, allowing her to explore an array of different musical textures without lowing her indie-folk sensibilities.

“Melissa” was released earlier this year and now Julia Johnson has revealed the mesmerising new video directed by Shane Parsons. Check it out here:

Melbourne based singer-songwriter Alanna Eileen has just dropped the news that she will be releasing her new EP Keepsake on the 13th December.

The EP was recorded at folk-music mecca The Sitting Room in Lyttelton, New Zealand with Ben Edwards (Marlon Williams, Nadia Reid) and features five beautiful tracks including the single “Knowledge” from earlier this year.

The National Folk Festival Announces 13 More Artists for 2018

The National Folk Festival once again delivers with their latest “bakers dozen” announcement of 13 more artists for 2018.

The announcement is headed up by a bunch of international talent including the American acoustic duo Ryanhood (above), Chrysoula K. & Púrpura from Greece bringing together East and West, Faith i Branko, the collaboration between Roma violinist Branko Ristic and UK accordionist Faith Ristic, high-energy, UK based bluegrass quintet Flats and Sharps and the John McSherry and Donal O’Connor Trio from Ireland.

They’re joined by an impressive contingent of local talent including Damian Howard (VIC), Miriam Lieberman (NSW), The Black Swans of Trespass (TAS), The Button Collective (NSW), Royal High Jinx (VIC), Horns of Leroy (VIC), Squeebz (VIC) and Dinosaur Time Machine.

Irish music legend Eleanor McEvoy has announced she’ll be back in Australia this January with a bunch of East coast dates.

Having already been announced for the Woodford Folk Festival, the Cygnet Folk Festival and the Illawarra Folk Festival, Eleanor McEvoy is rounding out her visit with a bunch of headline shows in New South Wales, Tasmania and the ACT. Check out the full list oif dates below:
