Melbourne singer-songwriter Cat Canteri has just released her amazing home made video “Fitzroy Bowl”. Fusing together the seemingly disparate notions of country music and skateboarding, the track is poignant and melancholy. And as someone who has spent a bit of time in the inner north of Melbourne it’s amazing to watch Canteri skating through so many familiar locations.

Singer-songwriter and one third of legendary Australian folk band The Waifs, Vikki Thorn, has annouced plans for her debut headline tour of Australia this March.
The tour will feature Thorn fronting a trio made up of the very talented Heath Cullen and long term The Waifs bassist Ben Franz.

For the past couple of years a simply delightful folk festival has sprung up in the sleepy Sydney suburb of Summer Hill and it’s quickly flourished to become one of our favourite events of the year.
This year the Summer Hill Folk Festival will also host a blackboard stage giving anyone the opportunity to sign up and perform for 30 mins as well as vocal and dance workshops and an Irish Ceili Dance.
The brand new Sydney based festival Sydney City Limits has managed to sneak in some very exciting indie-folk acts on their lineup this weekend including Vance Joy, The Head and The Heart, The Staves, Stella Donnelly and more.

As we make our way into February we’ve been blessed with another round of artists announced for this year’s Gum Ball festival in the Hunter Valley.
As always the announcement has a healthy contingent of Timber and Steel friendly artists including singer-songwriter Ben Salter (above), 10-piece reggae outfit V Tribe, Adelaide alt-country duo Hana & Jessie-Lee and many more.

Queensland based singer-songwriter Brad Butcher has kicked off 2018 in a big way, taking out the Best New Talent gong at the Golden Guitars in January.
And now Butcher is releasing his brand new single and video “Crawl, Beg & Cry”. The track is the third single from Brad Butcher’s latest album Well Dressed Man and was co-written with Nash Chambers and Harry Hookey.
Scottish indie-trad five piece band Elephant Sessions are heading our way for festival season and they’ve just announced a bunch of headline shows while they’re in the country.
