The latest video from John Butler Trio, “How You Sleep At Night”, comes with a poignant message. Shot in reverse and featuring schoolyard bullies, the video is meant as a metaphor for broader cultural issues.
“How You Sleep At Night” was written by John Butler after a confrontation with West Australian Premier Colin Barnett over the building of a large natural gas plant on a stretch of land in the Kimberley.
“At the end of the discussion I suggested we put all the ecological, economic and political differences aside and just asked him how he’d feel if it were his ancestors’ graves that were being dug up for a gas plant,” Butler explains. Not satisfied with Barnett’s answer he channel his frustration into the song.
