Sofar Sounds Melbourne Announces Christmas Party

2012 has once again been a massive year for the humble house concert with many artists, big and small, local and international, choosing the comfort and intimacy of lounge rooms and back gardens to play to their most dedicated fans. At the forefront of the house concert movement has been the international concert series Sofar Sounds who every month bring lounge room concerts to over a dozen cities around the world.

For Sofar Sounds the concept is simple – the lineup and location of the concerts is kept a secret, only the quality of the music is guaranteed, and to get a seat at any of the gigs you have to be subscribed to the Sofar Sounds mailing list and RSVP very quickly as the spots fill up very quickly.

In Australia Sofar Sounds is operated in Melbourne and Sydney. In Melbourne this month the Sofar Sounds crew have decided to turn their December concert into something of a Christmas party and, breaking slightly with Sofar Sounds tradition, have released the venue and teased the lineup.

On the afternoon of the 16th December Sofar Sounds Melbourne will be taking over School House Studios (97 Nicholson Street, Abbotsford, VIC) for their Christmas party and have so far revealed a lineup that includes 60s psychedelic soundtrack pop powerhouse Brous, indie/pop troubadours Francolin, folk-rock songstress Ainslie Wills, indie r&b/soul group The Harpoons and Sydney vocal phenomenon (and Timber and Steel favourite) Elana Stone. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg with at least five more acts (including some big names) to be announced on the day.

Tickets for the Sofar Sounds Melbourne Christmas show are $15 on the door but we suggest you pick them up prior to the day via Music Glue here. For more information check out the official Sofar Sounds Melbourne Facebook page here.
