Friday Folk Flashback

“Flooers o’ the Forest” – Dick Gaughan

“Flooers o’ the Forest” or “Flowers of the Forest” is often played as an instrumental tune known as “The Lament” on solo pipes during Remembrance Day. Lest we forget.

Perry Keyes and Mark Lucas Announced for the Next Heartbreaker Sessions

As the end of the year fast approaches your chances of getting to one of Sydney’s fortnightly Heartbreaker Sessions quickly diminish. Luckily they keep delivering on the lineup front to entice you in even during the busy summer season.

The next of the Heartbreaker Sessions will be held this Sunday 15th November and will feature two of Sydney’s finest proponents of the Americana and alt-country genres – Perry Keyes and Mark Lucas. Both singers will be performing in solo mode and are guaranteed to leave you wanting more.

The Heartbreaker Sessions are held at Freda’s in Chippendale. The night kicks off at 6pm is 100% free – for more information check out the official Facebook invite here.

Dashville Skyline Announces First Round of Artists

Brand new Americana festival Dashville Skyline, brought together by the folks behind The Gum Ball, have announced the first round of artists for their debut event. Held in Lower Belford, NSW on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th October, the festival has been tantalising us with hints over the last few weeks, and with this lineup the wait has paid off.

The first round of artists for this year’s Dashville Skyline include a bunch of Timber and Steel favourites – Wagons, Bahamas (CAN), All Our Exes Live in Texas, Green Mohair Suits, Melody Pool, Lachlan Bryan & The Wildes, The Lonesome Heroes (USA), Olympia, Bell St Delays, Papa Pilko & The Bin Rats, Perry Keyes, Ben Wright Smith and Elwood Myre.

“This is the first taste of a line up designed to reflect the sparse musical lineage between traditional roots music and modern Americana,” explains event organiser Matt Johnston. “We’ve already sold out of our early-bird ticket allocation without an artist announcement, which is fantastic. I think that people connect with the genre and are excited about the concept of this festival.”

The second round of artists for Dashville Skyline is due for announcement at the end of the month. For more information check out the official site here.
