Friday Folk Flashback

“Temperance Reel” – Sierra Hull & Justin Moses

Listen to the New Nahko Single “Be Here Now”

Nahko

The latest single from roots singer-songwriter Nahko’s debut solo album My Name Is Bear is “Be Here Now”.

The track shows off Nahko’s eclectic styles and comes complete with a goofy lyric video.

“I’m proud to announce the release of our lyric video for “Be Here Now”,” Nahko announced.”I hope you get a lot of laughs out of it! I spent five days choreographing and rehearsing it and I think it came out smashingly. Laughter is the best medicine and I wanted to make a lyric video that would bring that out in our global Tribe. So, why not make something that I’m SO not good at! I am definitely not a dancer, but I can certainly be silly. It was pretty hard to choreograph, I’ll be honest. I didn’t know the first thing about it. But, the third day in I began to block things and it came together by the end! ‘Be Here Now’ was the perfect video to create a lyric video in different languages and let the laughter do the rest. Enjoy!”

Check out the lyric video for “Be Here Now” below:

Interviews

“We’re always trying to grow our sound, trying to find new ways to help us get a bigger sound. Tim (Chaisson) plays the fiddle and has a bit of foot percussion going on with the stomp box and tambourine. Koady (Chaisson) plays the banjo but also does a bit of pedal work with some effects, some bass stuff with his feet. I’ve mostly played guitar over the past couple of years but I play keyboard as well and we’ve been slowly bringing that into the show as well. We just try to see what we come up with”Gareth Hugh Evans chats to Jake Charron from The East Pointers. Interview here

Roots singer-songwriter Nahko has just released his new video “Dragonfly” from his upcoming solo album My Name Is Bear (due out today).

The video features Nahko’s close friend Paris Jackson and is already causing quite a stir.

“I specifically wanted to capture this young woman’s natural beauty and focus on what I thought would be a very perfect song to explain a transformational time that fit both her and I,” Nahko explained.

American roots singer Nahko (of Nahko and Medicine for the People fame) has just announced plans to release his debut solo album.

Titled My Name Is Bear Nahko’s album is informed by a time his life that he spent searching for his birth mother who had given him up at the age of 15 after being thrust into unthinkable circumstances. At the age of 21 he did find her, and remarkably she lived just 15 minutes from his home.

“I drove to her house and there she was,” said Nahko. “She was crying, I was crying and consequently, as most of these songs were written between the age of 18 and 21, much of the spirit of My Name Is Bear is informed by this time in my life.”

My Name Is Bear is due for release on the 20th October. The full track listing for the album is below:

1. Dragonfly
2. The Vow (Interlude)
3. Be Here Now
4. Goodnight, Sun
5. Too Much Kerouac (Interlude)
6. Kirby, Joe
7. Susanna
8. Bearly Thoughts (Interlude)

11. Call Him By His Name
