Friday Folk Flashback

“Bucks of Oranmore” – Matt Molloy & Dónal Lunny

Happy St Patrick’s Day everyone!

Watch the New Katie Brianna Video “King”

Katie Brianna

The latest single from Sydney alt-country singer Katie Brianna’s 2016 album Victim or the Heroine is the wonderful “King”. The track is one of the most upbeat on the album and deals with themes of admiration, love, loyalty and desperation

“I guess the desperation part is giving yourself over to someone completely, telling them that they become your world and maybe that they are that one person who gives you a reason to be,” Brianna explained.

“King” has been released with a gorgeous video from Lyn Taylor – check it out below:

“Blue Bleezin’ Blind Drunk” – Linda Thompson

Katie Brianna and Caitlin Harnett Cover Karl Broadie’s “Drink The Whole Bottle Down”

Katie and Caitlin

Last year Australia’s top musicians came together to pay tribute to the late Karl Broadie with amazing album Leave On A Light: The Songs Of Karl Broadie.

Broadie, who lost his battle with cancer in April last year, was a mentor to so many musicians in Sydney and watching the local community rally around him was a real inspiration.

Sydney Americana artists Katie Brianna and Caitlin Harnett have just released a video of their version of Karl Broadie’s “Drink The Whole Bottle Down” from Leave On A Light: The Songs Of Karl Broadie. The video was shot by Lyn Taylor – check it out below:

Reviews

Gigs

“James “Morri” Morrison is an affable front man whose easygoing stage presence kept the audience enthralled throughout. I love the way he personalised Paul Kelly’s songs with his introductions, espousing his personal connections to the material. Morri was joined by a band of fine musicians – Anna McInerey on fiddle, Jimmy Daley on mandolin, Dr Zane Banks on banjo (and even a little bit of guitar!), Iain Tallis on bass and Miles Fraser on lead guitar – who in turn reproduced the musical accompaniment of Paul Kelly’s bluegrass albums and also made the songs their own. For a brief moment I wondered how close the players were getting to the solos and melodies of the original albums and then I realised it didn’t matter – each song was pitch perfect”Gareth Hugh Evans reviews The Morrisons’ show Smoke on a Foggy Highway: The Bluegrass Albums of Paul Kelly.
