Interviews

“We’re always trying to grow our sound, trying to find new ways to help us get a bigger sound. Tim (Chaisson) plays the fiddle and has a bit of foot percussion going on with the stomp box and tambourine. Koady (Chaisson) plays the banjo but also does a bit of pedal work with some effects, some bass stuff with his feet. I’ve mostly played guitar over the past couple of years but I play keyboard as well and we’ve been slowly bringing that into the show as well. We just try to see what we come up with”Gareth Hugh Evans chats to Jake Charron from The East Pointers. Interview here

Friday Folk Flashback

“Rox in the Box” – The Decemberists

If you caught The Decemberists in Sydney this week you would have seen Colin Meloy forget the words to this track before revisiting it later in the set for an absolutely cracking version. I love the way “Rox in the Box” ties into the folk tradition borrowing the tune for “Raggle Taggle Gypsy” as its refrain.

The shows announced this week are only for Sydney and Brisbane so far but I can’t imagine those will be the only shows he’s got planned. Check out the full list of dates below:

Watch the New José González Video “Open Book”

Jose Gonzalez

The gorgeous new single from singer-songwriter José González is “Open Book” has a video which is a sequel to the Calexico clip “Falling From the Sky” which featured González.

The track is taken from José González’s latest album Vestiges & Claws.

“In this video I’m attached to a thing, a big worm-like part of me that needs me more than I need it,” González explains. “It’s a humorous but still poetic twist on the theme of the album – Vestiges & Claws and of the song – “Open Book”, regarding relationships.”
