Neko Case Announces Golden Plains Sideshows

One of the most exciting announcements as part of next year’s Golden Plains festival was American singer-songwriter Neko Case. Currently touring her new album The Worse Things Get, The Harder I Fight, The Harder I Fight, The More I Love You, Case has now revealed plans for a bunch of sideshows while she’s in the country next year.

The Tallest Man On Earth Announces 2013 Australian Tour

With his addition to the 2013 WOMADelaide lineup there was always a pretty strong chance that Swedish folk sensation The Tallest Man on Earth would be touring Australia again – and now we’ve had that chance confirmed. The Tallest Man on Earth will be taking in shows in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Hobart next March in what is truly a national tour.

We saw him last time he was out here and he was amazing – these shows are not to be missed:

Golden Plains the Sixxxth Announces Lineup

Two weeks ago the Victorian festival Golden Plains stole the thunder of the Big Day Out by announcing Bon Iver and Roky Erickson as their headliners and we’ve been eagerly awaiting the rest of the lineup ever since.

Well it looks like today is the day with Golden Plains the Sixxxth putting their first round lineup out there and impressing us with it’s eclectic mix of bands. Joining Bon Iver on the folkier side of things is Bonnie “Price” Billy (above), Lanie Lane and First Aid Kit, with a bunch of rock, electro, soul and dance acts making up the rest of the list.

The Middle East Album Details and Free Download

It was way back at the start of December that Townsville’s The Middle East released the first single (“Jesus Came To My Birthday Party”) from their upcoming debut album and we’ve really heard nothing from the band since. Then today out of no where Spunk Records, via their Facebook, released the album’s title, I Want That You Are Always Happy, and a release date of the 8th of April.

And if that little tidbit of news isn’t enough The Middle East are also offering a free download of their new track “Black Death 1349” via the Golden Plains Festival web site (where they are playing from the 12th to the 14th March). “Black Death 1349” is much more in keeping with the band’s earlier releases than “Jesus Came To My Birthday Party” and should delight Middle East fans.

Joanna Newsom Adds More Dates to Tour

Having already been announced for the Golden Plains Festival and the Perth International Arts Festival, harpist Joanna Newsom has added a couple of solo shows and an appearance at WOMADelaide to her visit. Freak-folk fans should check out the dates below, especially those in Adelaide as this is the first time Newsom’s been to the South Australian city.

Belle and Sebastian Added to Golden Plains Lineup

As if Joanna Newsom wasn’t enough of a indie-folk draw card the Golden Plains Festival in Meredith has just added Belle and Sebastian to its lineup. This will be the first time the Scottish band has visited Australia in 3 years and the first since the release of their album Write About Love. The Golden Plains Festival will be held from the 12th to the 14th March next year.

The queen of freak-folk Joanna Newsom has just been confirmed to appear at next year’s Golden Plains Festival in Meredith, Victoria. The festival, held from the 12th to the 14th March, is a feast of indie and folk goodness and also features the likes of The Middle East and Boy & Bear. The full lineup is below:
