Reviews

Gigs

“Our pick of the Falls Festival Byron Bay programming at The Grove was Ben Wilson – performing as a 3 piece act that had us hooked from from the first strum of a string. Between them, the outfit sported double bass, violin, acoustic guitar and harmonica, plus their fabulous harmonised vocals, crowded round a very vintage microphone, managing to capture their tunes before the breeze could” – Part 1 of our Falls Festival Byron Bay Review here

“From emotive choruses, to beautiful moments of quiet among the electricity of the band, Julia Jacklin had it all going on. Her rendition of folk song “Wonderland” showcased the solace of her voice accompanied by only her electric guitar, and the vibrato timbre to her voice had an enchanting effect on the audience” – Part 2 of our Falls Festival Byron Bay Review here

Following a super exciting first artist announcement back in June, Americana and roots festival Dashville Skyline have returned to complete the full list of artists appearing at this year’s event.

Dashville Skyline has scored a coup with the announcement of US roots singer Valerie June when she’s in the country supporting Old Crow Medicine Show. ARIA award winners Oh Mercy make a welcome return to the Dashville stage and will also be joined by local buzz band The Teskey Brothers and Irish folk guru Declan O’Rourke.

The rest of the lineup is made up of Dashville Progress Society, Demi Mitchell, Lyle Dennis Express, Magpie Diaries, Ben Leece, Nicholas Connors, Fallon Cush, Jen Mize, Paddy McHugh, Lucie Thorne and Matt Walker. That’s the full lineup in the poster above.

Held in the bushland of the Hunter Valley in New South Wales, Dashville Skyline takes place from the 29th September to the 1st October. Tickets for Dashville Skyline are on sale now – check out the official web site for more details.

Sydney based rock and alt-country band Fallon Cush have just released their new single and video “Long Shot”.

The song was written last November when singer-songwriter Steve Smith was going through the form guide trying to pick a winner for the Melbourne Cup.

“I subsequently discovered everybody loves a long shot providing it wins, otherwise it’s a donation the TAB but the experience inspired a catchy little tune so the day wasn’t a complete write-off,” Smith explains.

This is the first taster of an upcoming album due for release this September. Check out the video for “Long Shot” below:

Fallon Cush will be launching “Long Shot” with a very special show at The Union in Sydney on the 13th August – check out the Facebook invite for more details.
