Reviews

Gigs

“We’ve seen him in a number of settings, from large festival stages, to solo shows, from super groups, to full band concerts and even a magical collaboration with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. But it’s the witty repartee that fills the gaps between songs and reveals his inner dork that is exactly the thing that fans love about him”KT Bell Reviews Josh Pyke at Twilight at Taronga. Friday Folk Flashback

“Twa Corbies” – Steeleye Span

We thought we’d choose a nice creepy folk song for your All Hallows’ Eve. Happy Samhain one and all!

Watch the New Brendon Moon Video “Augustine”

Brendon Moon

The first time I ever saw Brendon Moon was at the Sydney Festival’s Folk In A Box venue at the start of this year. I say “saw” him – in reality the venue was almost pitch black so all I got to experience was his beautiful voice. Since then I’ve actually seen Moon a number of times and I think he’s got a really interesting sound and is will worth checking out if you get a chance.

Brendon Moon’s new video is for the track “Augustine” which is taken from his upcoming debut EP Ephemeral Bliss which is due for release early next year. Watch “Augustine” below:

Friday Folk Flashback

“Youth” – Daughter

Daughter have become a favourite on the indie scene worldwide but for us our love affair began with the band’s early, folky single “Youth”

MoFo at The Gaelic Announces May Lineup

Huckleberry Hastings

This Friday the 9th May will see this month’s edition of Sydney monthly folk night MoFo at The Gaelic. As the name would suggest the night takes place at The Gaelic Club in Sydney’s Surry Hills and features two of the city’s up and coming young singer-songwriters.

First up is Brendon Moon who I first came across at Folk in a Box at the Sydney Festival earlier this year. Moon plays a beautiful, soft breed of folk music that compels you to lean forward and take everything in. Breathtaking.

In stark contrast will be the raw, soul-rendering emotion of Huckleberry Hastings. If you haven’t seen Hastings before prepare to have your heart pulled from your chest – this is primal stuff.

MoFo at The Gaelic kicks off at 7:30pm with tickets just $15 on the door. For more information check out the official Facebook event here.
