Thank Folk It’s Friday – 20th March

This Week in Folk

All the News From The Week That Was

“Right now is peak folk festival season and the cancellation of so many shows is going to have a deep and lasting impact on so many in the industry who rely on gigs for their income. However we think there’s a real opportunity for folk community to come together and soften that impact, if by just a little”Gareth Hugh Evans on the little ways we can help our community in these trying times. Blog post here

“Riverboats Music Festival is probably the most comfortable festival to attend – accommodation is nearby, the venue is easy to navigate and facilities excellent. The curation of the line up ensures a great variety of complimentary acts. MC Brian Nankervis of RocKwiz fame kept acts rolling and entertainment between sets going – never have we seen so much dedication from a crowd to either quiz answers or a Frisbee competition”KT Bell reviews Riverboats Music Festival. Timber and Steel Recommends – Go To This Gig

Empty Folk Club

With the current situation surrounding COVID-19 we felt it was responsible not to recommend any gigs for the time being. Instead we recommend you support your favourite folk artists in other ways such as:

– Signing up to the Patreon of your favourite artists
– Buying artists’ albums and EPs on Bandcamp or iTunes or wherever you can
– Ordering physical copies of artists’ music or their merchandise online
– If you stream music, stream all you can. Create and share playlists of the artists you would have seen live and have music constantly in your life. Streaming doesn’t pay much but it pays something.
– If a cancelled festival or event is offering to transfer your ticket to next year’s event, take them up on that offer rather than asking for a refund. They’d appreciate the money in the bank
Stay safe everyone
