Celebrated Melbourne based folk band the Lucy Wise Trio have announced plans to release a very special live EP. Titled A Painting of the Universe, the EP comprises of five tracks each telling a different story about life in Australia and all inspired by the winning poems of The Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards. I’ve seen the Lucy Wise Trio perform a couple of these tracks live and they’re stunning.

The story behind the EP is really interesting. According to the press release “The songs on the EP were commissioned by the Gunnedah Conservatorium to celebrate thirty years of the Dorothea Mackellar Poetry Awards. In August 2014, the trio read through winning poems of the competition and were exposed to the different voices, perspectives and creative minds of hundreds of young Australians, eventually choosing five poems as prompts for songs.”

A Painting of the Universe is due for release on 4th March. The Lucy Wise Trio will be launching the EP at a bunch of headline and festival gigs in March – check out the full list of dates below:

Friday 6th to Monday 9th March – Port Fairy Folk Festival, Port Fairy, VIC
