I first stumbled across Canadian April Verch when at The National Folk Festival a couple of years ago where I was drawn into a tent by the banging and bashing of her clog dancing and the sweet sweet tunes of her fiddle – and I’ve been a fan ever since.

Verch has just announced plans to release her new album, The Newpart, which is due for release on the 7th April. The album is named for the “Newpart”, the rehearsal space her father used in the Verch family home and is steeped in the tradition.

“When you really know and love this music, you want to go deeper, to bring out new dimensions, without straying too much into novelty.” April Verch explained. “These songs don’t need to be revived. They are timeless. They are still very much alive and relevant.”

The Newpart was produced by fiddler Casey Driessen. Check out the full track list below:

1. Belle Election
2. If You Hadn’t Gone Away
3. Bring Your Clothes Back Home

9. Polksa From Kumla
10. Midnight Serenade / Stern Wheeler
