At Sydney’s Folk Club last week I went along merely as an audience member but found myself on stage by the end of the night chatting to the lovely and charismatic Julia from Julia and the Deep Sea Sirens. At the last minute regular host Emma Swift (from FBi’s In The Pines) had to go home sick so I stepped up, unprepared and resplendent in a hoody and faded Mumford and Sons t-shirt, and took the reigns. And boy did I enjoy myself.
This week the irrepressible Emma Swift is back in the hosting and interviewing chair for Folk Club and it looks like it’s going to be a killer night. In the headline spot will be Sydney duo We Are The Birdcage who have been away from the stage for a while to record but have emerged from the studio for this show. The Falls are back after a week off and opening the night will be a man we’ve been hearing a lot about, Huckleberry Hastings.
Folk Club starts around 8pm on Wednesday night at the Oxford Art Factory’s Gallery Bar in Darlinghurst, Sydney. Entry is free (although tips for the bands are greatly apprciated) and the night videoed by the talented folks from Artheory. For more details make sure you check out the official Facebook Event here.
