I feel like the popularity of Sydney’s Folk Club was cemented last week. On a night which was not only dreary and wet (which Sydneysiders love to use as an excuse not to go out) but Folk Club #12 also clashed with the State of Origin and local shows from both Matt Corby and Julia Stone. Yet anyone who was at the Oxford Art Factory’s Gallery Bar watching Jack Carty, The Falls and Wes Carr can attest that the place was absolutely jam-packed with people.
And I think the next Folk Club, on Wednesday the 20th June, is going to be just as good with an awesome lineup and a very special hook. With the headliner this week being none other than banjo player extraordinaire Packwood, a man known as much for his beautiful folk music as he is for the orchestral arrangements on his self-titled EP, punters can expect the stage to be graced by a string quartet. And that very same string quartet will not only be playing with Packwood but also with the other two artists on the night, Rosie Catalano and The Falls.
This week’s Folk Club will once again feature Timber and Steel’s very own Gareth Hugh Evans on hosting duties, filling in for regular host Emma Swift. As usual the night is free (with tips for the artists very much appreciated) and kicks off between 7:30 and 8:00pm. For more details check out the official facebook invite here.
