Emmy The Great and Tim Wheeler (Ash) are getting in the Christmas spirit again this year with the re-release of their 2011 collaborative effort This is Christmas featuring a bunch of original festive songs. To celebrate the re-release Emmy the Great and Tim Wheeler are releasing one of those songs, “Zombie Christmas”, as a brand new single.
Recently Emmy and Tim had a bunch of their fans get the Hollywood zombie makeup treatment to put together the video for “Zombie Christmas”. Check out the results below:
As much as we may want to avoid it Christmas does mean that artists of all genres produce holiday-themed albums, usually to varying degrees of cringing-ness. We’ve already covered a couple of the folkier offerings on Timber and Steel including the collaboration between Emmy The Great and Tim Wheeler (Ash) This is Christmas.
The album itself is due for release on the 21st November but we already have the first video for “Home For The Holidays” for your viewing pleasure. Take a look at it below and don’t forget to check out the This is Christmas web site for more details.
Emmy The Great and long time collaborator/current squeeze Tim Wheeler (Ash) have announced they too will be releasing a Christmas album this year. The album, titled This is Christmas, doesn’t sound like your regular holiday offering with track titles like “Zombie Christmas”, “Sleigh Me” and “Christmas Day (I wish I was Surfing)” (which you could be if you came to Australia Emmy!).
This is Christmas is due for release on 21st November and between now and then Emmy The Great and Tim Wheeler are offering up two very special giveaways. Firstly, if you head over to their newly created Facebook Page and like them you can download the very rocky, very un-folk “Christmas Day (I wish I was Surfing)” for free (we’ve embedded it below). Secondly, if you upload your Christmas photos to #thisischristmasphotos on Twitter you could be in with the chance to have them officially featured as part of the album’s iTunes digital booklet.
Check out the official This is Christmasweb site and/or Facebook for more details.
At the beginning of this year a musician by the name of Robert Manning started the MRI Project. Manning was a prolific musician and performer before Multiple Sclerosis regularly began to cripple his ability to play guitar. But before he stopped playing and recording music Manning, under the pseudonym of Happy Monster, wrote and recorded the track “Washington Parks” to win over his now wife Megan.
The song worked and on the back of that success Manning started the MRI Project where he would get artists he admired to cover “Washington Parks” to raise awareness for MS and raise money for the Multiple Sclerosis Society (UK). The first artist Manning got on board was Ed Harcourt whose interpretation of the song you can hear and purchase here.
The latest artists to cover “Washington Parks” are Timber and Steel favourite Emmy The Great along with regular collaborator Tim Wheeler (of Ash fame), the result of which you can listen to below:
If you like what you hear and want to support this cause head over to the Happy Monster Bandcamp page and purchase the track(s). And we also recommend checking out Robert Manning’s blog on the project to see what other artists he gets on board.
