It’s October now so that can only mean one thing – it’s time for artists to start stringing the tinsel and lighting the twinkly lights as they start producing Christmas music. And the first cab off the rank this year is no stranger to the Christmas song: Sufjan Stevens.
Sufjan Stevens has announced he will be releasing a five EP box set this year titled Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Volumes 6-10. The boxset is the followup to Stevens’ 2006 five EP effort and contains tracks recorded between then and 2010 (so it’s likely to be more classic Sufjan than weird Day-Glo Sufjan).
Due for physical release on the 13th November via Asthmatic Kitty the boxset also includes stickers, temporary tattoos, a Christmas ornament, a poster, lyric sheets and chord charts, “hallucinogenic photographs and psychedelic graphic design” by Stevens and liner notes. The Vinyl version of the boxset includes a colouring book.
The first track from Silver & Gold: Songs for Christmas, Volumes 6-10, “Christmas Unicorn”, has already been made available to listen to online. Stream it below:
