Image Court of Martha Wainwright
The first single from Martha Wainwright’s upcoming album is something very dear to the US singer-songwriter. The single, “Proserpina”, was the last song Wainwright’s mother Kate McGarrigle wrote before she past away in 2010. As such the video for “Proserpina”, directed by Matthu Placek, is a somewhat emotional affair.
Martha Wainwright said on the song: “It’s the last song my mother wrote, and of course I also think that she wrote it for me, and for Rufus. We wrote songs together, ever since we were children. As we sing her songs, I think her voice can be heard in ours, literally through our pipes.”
