Can you believe it’s August already? This year is just flying past! But at least a new month means a new installment of our favourite Sydney monthly modern folk night MoFo. And what a treat they have for you this month!
First up is The Leichhardt Internaional Ukestra (above), a group that was formed by Robin Dixon and Haidee Ireland in July 2010 as a casual amateur ensemble for friends but has since evolved into fully-fledged festival conquering, (almost) professional orchestra. They have to be seen to be believed!
Secondly MoFo will feature the percussive fingerpicking guitar work of Stephen O’Hern. O’Hern has won a series of awards over the last couple of years including Young Instrumentalist of the Year 2011 at the National Folk Festival and the Open Instrumental Section of the Tamworth CCMA Talent Quest 2011, and his audiences frequently comment that they’ve “never heard a guitar played like that before”.
MoFo will be held at the Gaelic Club (Upstairs) in Surry Hills on the 10th August – that’s this Friday! Tickets for the night are $15 ($10 concessions available) with the proceeds going towards the musicians. Check out the official Facebook event for more details.
