For the past couple of years Timber and Steel has chosen The Peats Ridge Festival, held in the Glenworth Valley just north of Sydney, to see in the New Year. It’s definitely not the biggest New Year festival going and it’s certainly not the folkiest but it is one of the most chilled out ways to spend what can be a hectic time of year and there’s always a selection of Sydney’s finest indie-folk acts to keep even the staunchest Timber and Steel reader happy.

This afternoon the lineup for the 2012 Peats Ridge Festival was announced and this year the headliner is probably the biggest name in Australian roots music – the John Butler Trio. Add to that artists like Mat. McHugh, Gossling, Hat Fitz and Cara, Tigertown and Microwave Jenny and the festival has the acoustic fan covered.
