Transcendental Youth, the upcoming album from The Mountain Goats, is set to be released on the 2nd October with the first landing on the Internet this morning. The track is “Cry for Judas” and according to The Mountain Goats’ John Darnielle “is about saddling up your demons and learning to ride them like devil horses with big leathery wings. To the best of my knowledge, it’s also the first song ever to feature both a swinging horn section and a line about a baphomet drawn in chalk on an altar cloth, so everybody else who was trying to square that circle can take a breather now.”
Sounds a little more metal than folk right? Listen to “Cry for Judas” below and head over to Merge Records’ Soundcloud to download yourself a free copy.
