When The Middle East announced their breakup at Splendour in the Grass last August we assumed it wouldn’t be long before we started to hear new music from the various members of the band. So it’s come as somewhat as a surprise that it’s taken until now to hear anything from songwriter Rohin Jones.

Performing under the moniker R.L. Jones, The Middle East’s songwriter has just unleashed his new track “Everybody Wants To Be Your Friend”. Somewhat a departure from the folk of his previous work “Everybody Wants To Be Your Friend” features Adalita as guest vocalist and will feature on a 3 track single due for release on 2nd of July (with an album scheduled for 2013). Take a listen below:

R.L. Jones will be launching “Everybody Wants To Be Your Friend” at The Old Museum in Brisbane this Friday the 22nd June with The Blackwater Fever, Pete Cullen, John + Alexander and Dom Miller. Joining Jones on stage will be Middle East alumni Jack Saltmiras (guitar), Tim Barwise (bass) and Mike Haydon (drums). For more info on the gig check out the official Facebook invite here.
